Joyeux Anniversaire Two Bucks Til Wednesday

Friday, February 13th, 2009

To celebrate their second birthday, the queens of WA vintage – Two Bucks Til Wednesday, invited friends round for a shoot to show off garments that could be yours, if you head along to their Autumn sale. Though I’m much more comfortable behind the lens, I couldn’t say no to the fab four, so you’ll find my face along with many others in their Autumn campaign.

The Two Bucks Autumn sale is set to take place on Saturday, February 28, at the Mount Hawthorn Community Hall, 197 Scarborough Beach Road, from 2pm til 5pm.

For more info on Two Bucks Til Wednesday, check out this old Dropstitch post.

Project Runway Australia wants you!

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Oh, Project Runway, how I adore thee!

A few years ago, some friends of mine who had Foxtel introduced me to the wonderful world of Project Runway America and I’ve been hooked ever since!

For those who are uninitiated, Project Runway is a reality show that pits 12 designers against one another in weekly challenges, to determine which three designers should show at the country’s respective fashion week.

Canada and Britain followed the yanks and created their own series, but nothing ever quite matched the original. Australia followed suit last year, launching its own version of the series, which proved just as addictive and enjoyable as the American original.

Arena has recently put the callout for designers for the second Australian series, so I’m helping to spread the word…

“Producers will be looking for raw talent and personality when deciding on the designers that will take the fashion spotlight. Project Runway Australia gives designers a platform to express themselves with the fashion industry looking over their shoulder.”

Designers interested in being part of Project Runway should: log onto www.arenatv.com.au(,) complete an application and provide their resume, upload examples of their designs and/or sketches, upload photos and/or short video of themselves.

Docs Love Designer Tees

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Contemporary Australian designers The Cassette Society, Trimapee and RestInPeace have joined forces with Dr. Martens to create tees for the Docs Love: Designer Tees And London Town promotion.

250 tees from each designer will be available to win through Dr. Martens’ stockists with the purchase of any Dr Martens.

All entrants go into the final draw to win a trip for two to London, the home of Dr. Martens, to personally select a pair of boots from the concept store in London’s Covent Garden… nice!

Dr. Martens sent me these tees and Hannah from Two Bucks Til Wednesday and photographer Cameron are modelling them for y’all.

So… if you fancy one of these tees, get yourself a pair of Dr. Martens before March 31.

Grave Diggers And Chandeliers

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Head on down to the wonderful DeVille’s Pad tonight, Friday, January 30, at 8pm for Grave Diggers And Chandeliers. Presented by the Sexton Creepers (aka Meghan Hosie, Jessica Carlucci and Grace Macri), the evening will be full of wild, debaucherous fun!

Meghan Hosie has more:

“We will create a world of chaos, confusion, clashing and contradiction to the common age. The parade, Grave Diggers And Chandeliers, denounces consumer cool and declares our hate for those who are dedicated to producing conformity.”

A walk down memory lane…

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

My website hosting expired recently and I was faced with the decision of whether to continue with Dropstitch or just let it die. After kicking off proceedings in June 2007, things started slowly – I was faced with the task of having to build up enough confidence to approach absolute strangers, and well dressed ones to boot, and take their photo on a camera I could barely operate.

It ended up being fantastic – through Dropstitch I’ve met so many interesting people and have found out a lot more about the fashion industry in Perth. Opportunities have been a-plenty, with a few overseas magazines wanting to publish my snaps on a regular basis, and a local magazine wanting to hire me on a permanent one.

Though I can’t update as much as I could before working at X-Press, I still love going out and taking photos – I’m thrilled every time I see a well dressed person! Finding those well dressed people hasn’t always been easy though; in a city as sprawling as Perth, you never know where fashionable folk will be hanging out. So, updates haven’t always been regular, and yes, I have photographed some of the same people more than once, but hey, why show one cool outfit when you could show two?

Because the website may go down for an unspecified amount of time while the hosting is changed over to another company, I wanted to assure people that Dropstitch isn’t dead and I’m not planning on letting it fizzle out anytime soon. I have big plans for Dropstitch in 2009, which you’ll find out more about as things progress. Until then, lets take a walk down memory lane…

Remember Zoe? She was the first person I ever took a photograph of for Dropstitch. She’s now modelling over in Japan – lucky lass.

Zoe

Here’s Celene at The Prom in 2007. I think to date, this has been one of the most talked about outfits on the site, for all the right reasons.

Celene

I don’t remember her name, but I took this girl’s photo at The Klaxons gig at Capitol. It’s one of my favourite photos – I love how simple and chic her outfit is.

This lad’s name is Sam; this photograph of him has been really popular with mens’ fashion sites and a couple of magazines – nice work buddy.

Sam

Anyone who has read Dropstitch from the start will recognise Chloe. I met her when I took this photo and have since bumped into her with my camera on many occasions.

I adore this chap’s outfit – very dapper.

There’s been some pretty funny moments thanks to you guys too…

Remember Fred The Mole? No? Well, you can read all about him here and here . Pretty funny stuff.

Thanks for reading, Emma
