The hair styling technique above is called Rick Racking – you wrap the hair in a figure 8 around a pin then heat it with a straightening iron to create a crimp like effect. It took ages to do but was definitely worth the work!
After a very quiet Christmas I was desperate to do something creative in the early New Year, and found my opportunity in the form of a photoshoot last week with the amazing Caitlin Worthington and Sam Enticknap, along with the beautiful miss Amy R @ Vivien’s on modelling duties. Our creative vision was pretty loose: we wanted to do something beautiful and whimsical, so off we went to the salt lakes in Rockingham with armfuls of tulle, gold leaf and sequins. We were greeted by flies, broken bottles and sunlight so intense that it was hard to open our eyes… not the most glamorous scenario but I’m sure some lovely shots will come out of it. Until then, here are some sneaky Instagram behind-the-scenes snaps.
The spring edition of X-Press Fashion Magazine hit the streets of Perth last month but I haven’t had a chance to post pics from it ’til now. Better late than never, right…? Shot by Caitlin Worthington with beauty by Sam Enticknap, styling by yours truly, and Talisa @ Scene and Flu @ Vivien’s in front of the lens, Oblivion pays homage to the modern grunge revival, featuring threads from Billie & Rose, Poppy Lissiman Addition, Zara Bryson, Pigeonhole, Pulse and Dangerfield at enex100. A few months ago Caitlin Worthington, Rebecca Joanne, Melissa Cook and myself joined forces to collaborate on a beauty editorial featuring live Monarch butterflies. Big thanks to Elleshia Edwards at Chadwick’s for modelling for us and for tolerating butterflies flapping on and around her face while we were shooting! I made all of the collars Elleshia is wearing using second hand shirts, my trusty hot glue gun, some rocks from an aquarium store and lots of crafty bits and bobs from op shops and Spotlight.
