Cameron Etchells & Rebecca Mason from Scene working their magic for On A Whim
Last weekend I had the pleasure of helping the lovely ladies from On A Whim produce a lookbook for their forthcoming S/S collection entitled The Spectator. Inspired by tennis (and tennis skirts), badminton, croquet and other leisurely sports that you can play while wearing a cute outfit, The Spectator is full of pastels, pleats and pretty translucent fabrics. Here are some sneaky behind the scenes snaps from the shoot; I’ll be sure to share Cameron Etchells’ official images when they’re released a little later on.
Super cute Betts flatform sneakers, taped up and ready to shoot.
A few weeks ago AOTA opened its very own pop up studio at 140 William, a cultural hub smack bang in the middle of Perth. A gallery/photographic studio/venue for masterclasses, the space is decked out with furnishings by the incredible Dunk N’ Wagnall, who sourced materials from roadside collections and the tip to create a rustic, nostalgic and whimsical space. Our launch night was crazy – after many weeks of hard work we were finally able to welcome our friends, family and clients into the space, and so many people came to have a looksee and show their support – thank you guys! Check out the time lapse video above by Cameron Etchells to get a glimpse into the launch night and how many people came through.
This Thursday, March 8, from 6-9pm, the studio is having another soiree for the launch of AOTA <3s WA Designers, a pop up shop and exhibition featuring Little Gracie, On A Whim, Catini Designs and Peppermint Milk – four labels which AOTA works closely with. The pop up will remain open until 5pm on Saturday, March 10.
Last Thursday WA’s fashion pack gathered at the old GPO in the city for the 16th annual WA Fashion Awards, a night that celebrates the talents of models, designers, bloggers and other creative peeps who call Perth home. I was lucky enough to be nominated for the inaugural Betts Best Blogger Award at this year’s WAFAs alongside Bonnie Friday and Style Voyeur so was pretty darn excited for the festivities. Unfortunately my tonsils had other plans – I came down with a case of tonsillitis the night before the awards so was feeling rather haggard on the evening but I powered through and it was worth it – I won! Thanks to everyone who voted, it means the world to me! I received a stunning WAFA medallion by Perl’eco which I will treasure forever.
I’m not usually one to post outfit photos on my blog but I had to show off my beautiful frock made by the Kate & Erin from On A Whim. Thanks ladies! Also wearing one of my beloved This Is Make Believe necklaces and some Betts heels <3 Oh and makeup by Rebecca Joanne
I love a good lookbook shoot, particularly when it’s on location and that location is a field of flowers on a sunny afternoon. All Of the Above Creative’s Cameron Etchells and myself recently joined forces with Kate and Erin from On A Whim for a lookbook shoot in the Swan Valley and I think you’ll agree that the photos are Spring-tastic. Made with vintage fabrics, these On A Whim frocks are delightfully dainty and cute, perfect for picnics in the park and spring/summer shindigs.
Thanks to the team at the Perth Fashion Festival and the William Street Collective, On A Whim’s designs, plus plenty of creations from other West Australian designers, will be on display at retailers across Northbridge for Popsicle, an event that teams up labels with boutiques for a week long celebration of local style. The On A Whim girls will be setting up shop inside Oh Henry Vintage from September 21-27. I thoroughly suggest you pop in and check it out!
A few weeks ago on an unseasonably sunny winter’s day, I drove up to the beautiful Swan Valley (a wine growing region just north of Perth), for a dreamy photoshoot with an up and coming 14 year old model, Dorothy @ Vivien’s. It was Dorothy’s first time in front of lens and she was understandably nervous but I think she did a great job at capturing the whimsical vibe that photographer Kerri Mackintosh was keen to capture. Thanks to Raylee-jo Sinclair for her makeup skills and Neil Taylor for his hair styling.
