I think it’s fantastic that retailers such as Target are thinking outside the box and inviting high end designers to create affordable capsule collections for their stores. As a cash strapped fashion lover, I relish the opportunity to purchase and wear garments by renowned international designers without having to fork out hundreds for the privilege – so needless to say, when Nuffnang contacted me and asked whether I’d like to go to Sydney for the unveiling of the new Designer For Target, I jumped at the opportunity.
Fellow blogger Karen Cheng and I hopped on a plane to Sydney on Thursday and arrived late in the night. When we checked in at our hotel both Karen and I were blown away by the incredible architecture and furnishings of the Blue Sydney, situated on the wharf at Woolloomooloo. Our rooms were nothing short of spectacular, complete with huge baths, massive beds and beautiful views overlooking the wharf.
After a spot of shopping and sightseeing it was finally time to head to the Designer For Target launch and thanks to Nuffnang, we got there in style via a water taxi. It was awesome arriving at an event by boat! As we approached the incredible mansion in Point Piper, our water taxi driver informed us that the house hosting the party is Hugh Jackman and Bono’s venue of choice when they’re in Sydney; and Hugh Jackman forked out $35,000 per week to stay there while he was shooting X-Men. Oh to be rich!
After a few glasses of champagne, models began assembling at various points around the mansion and the garments they were wearing were just divine. My first guess was that the designer must be Michael Kors or Ralph Lauren because the outfits have an American sportswear feel to them but it was eventually revealed that Stella McCartney had once again joined forces with Target for this special campaign.
There are something like 42 looks all up in the collection, which means that there’s a huge variety of garments on offer. My favourites are the lace dresses and blouses, a gathered silk dress in nude and the classic, beautifully tailored blazers and trenchcoats.
Though Stella has created a collection for Target before that range was for Autumn/Winter, and her latest designs come just in time for Spring and Summer. I forsee lots of ladies frocking up in Stella’s creations for Christmas parties and the Spring racing season, and perhaps even for some summer weddings. All the garments are priced under $299, which makes them extremely affordable, and the variety of silhouettes on offer ensures that women of all shapes and sizes can find something to suit their figure.
While at the party I spotted a few celebrities including the wonderful Kerri Anne Kennerly (who has the most amazing figure for a 50 something woman), artist Jenny Kee, and Indigenous Australian model Samantha Harris.
The Stella McCartney Designer For Target collection will be in stores on October 29 but you’ll need to get in fast to snap something up – most of her last collection sold out within 10 minutes of it going on sale! To find out more head to designersfortarget.com.au
To celebrate the launch of the Stella collection Target is hosting a competition where Stella McCartney fans will get first dibs on the new designs!
